Simon Miller has enlisted the support of jockey William Pike to ride Hard Ball Get in Saturday’s 2012 Lee Steere Classic at Ascot Racecourse.
Hard Ball Get’s regular jockey, Paul Harvey, is currently serving a suspension and will miss the race this weekend.
The Aussie Rules gelding has won two of his three race starts and has earned more than $80,000 in prize money during his short horse racing career.
His most recent result was a second placing in the Listed Placid Ark Stakes at Ascot behind Miss Bux on December 1.
Miller is confident that Hard Ball Get will be at his best for the 2012 Lee Steere Classic.
“Hard Ball Get is in top order to tackle the classic second-up,” Miller said.
The trainer will saddle up three of the five runners in the 2012 Lee Steere Classic, with Miss Bux and Miss Solis also set to line up for the Group 3 race.
Miller has predicted that Miss Bux may have the slight advantage over her two stablemates.
“She’s looked very good in wins at her only two starts,” Miller said.
“Miss Solis will probably be the outsider of my trio, but she wouldn’t surprise if winning.
“The filly has won five races and she’s been freshened since her last start, a month ago.
“I gave Miss Solis six weeks off racing early in spring and she stormed home to win the Belgravia Stakes when resuming.
“Jason Whiting has been called in to ride Miss Solis for the first time on Saturday. His patient style will suit her.”
